Chinese Medicine Remedies - Weight Control
Weight control (especially weight loss) has always been a popular topic. It is also a health issue to be treated. How to see your waist size reduce?
Practise these methods - Be patien, be persistent, and always keep your goal in mind.
Points to note for weight control
- Stick to your weight control exercise schedule. If you do not have one, make an effort to have at least a walk whenever possible. Resist the temptation to make excuses to stop exercising. Once you stop, it is unlikely for you to continue.
- Control your diet. Eat less but have more meals each day.
- Drink soup before you have meals, so that you won't feel hungry. Also, remember sugary, salty, and fried food are no good. :)
- Don't drink alcohol - it has lots of calories. Also avoid overstimulating food such as spicy foods, or caffeine.
- Don't eat too much at dinner time. We are usually less active at night and, therefore, have less opportunity to burn off the calories.
- For good health, avoid stop eating or drastically reduce your food intake to lose weight. A gradual weight loss is much more healthy than a sudden weight loss.
- Add rice vinegar to your diet. Vinegar has amino acid that can transfer fat to energy and accelerate metabolism. Chinese also has the "weight loss" food such as garlic, cabbage, carrots, celery, tomatoes, cucumber, soybeans, taro root, apples, papaya, oranges, bean sprouts, or winter melon. Eat more of these food.
You would also need to be realistic - do not expect drastic result overnight.
Weight Control - The Remedies
- How about a Bath with herbs?
Boil 1 lb. of winter melon peels, 10 oz. of poria peels, and 4 oz. of papaya in water. Discard the solids and add the decoction to your bathwater. Bathe once a day for a month.
- Try rope jumping or stairs climbing on a daily basis.
- Take warm and cold showers alternately. Start with warm water, then switch to cold water. Repeat three times (well, don't overdo it and bath the whole day!). Finish with warm water. Don't get cold.
Recepes for weight control
- Have some cooked bananas:
Ingredients: 1 ripe banana.
Procedure: Peel banana. Cut into pieces. Place them in a pan with 1 cup of water. Bring to boil. Simmer for 10 minutes. Eat one banana a day for a prolonged period.
- Drink lotus leaf soup:
Ingredients: 1/8 oz. dry lotus leaves (available in Chinese grocery stores).
Procedure: Clean the lotus leaves first. Soak them overnight in water. Cut them into pieces. Add 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Divide into two portions for two days. Drink three times a day. Warm it before drinking.
- Drink red small bean soup:
Ingredients: 2 oz. Red small beans.
Procedure: Soak beans in 4 cups water overnight. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for an hour. Drink 100 ml each time, three times a day.
- Drink a mixture of 1 Tbs. rice vinegar, 1/2 Tbs. honey, and 3 Tbs. of warm water every day.
Chinese massage for weight control
Before getting up in the morning and after going to bed at night, do the following weight control massage once a day:
First, place your right palm on your belly button and your left on top of the right. Rub your abdomen outward in a counter clockwise direction 100 times.
Then, put the left palm on the bottom and start from the outer edge of the abdomen and rub inward in a clockwise direction. Repeat on opposite side.
Place your palms on the abdomen area, push down to pubic area 100 times.
Place your right palm on the lower edge of right ribs.
Push toward left groin area 50 times. Repeat on the other side.
Finally, press and knead your arms and legs for 10 minutes.
Prepare a long towel. Put cornstarch or massage oil on your waist to protect your skin. Your waist should be bare. Stand with feet shoulder width apart and wrap the towel around the back of your waist. Hold the two ends of the towel in your hands and pull it back and forth so it scrapes across your waist. Do so until you feel heat and the skin is flush.
